Not to mention, it’s home to three national parks: Pollino National Park (the largest national park in Italy), Sila National Park, and Aspromonte National Park.
Okay now, enough facts, let me tell you why I really fell in love with Calabria…
Irresistible Foods
Often hailed as the hot heart of Italy, where spicy flavours, lively locals and rugged coastlines weave an irresistible tapestry, Calabria is home to some of the best cuisine in Italy. To truly understand the heat of Calabrian cuisine, you must taste the delicious flavours of Calabrian pepperThe famous Calabrian chili pepper adds a spicy flavour to countless dishes, from pasta to pizza to seafood. Enjoying the delicious cuisine of this region is a must, especially the famous chili pepper. “Nduga.” sausageSwordfish served with a rich tomato sauce and capers, and Botero cheese Which adds a delicate creamy flavour to local recipes.

Natural beauty
When it comes to natural beauty, Calabria does not disappoint. Aspromonte National Park This region is a must-see for anyone who loves outdoor activities. Rugged peaks and ancient forests form a mystical backdrop, leading you through unspoiled valleys and cascading waterfalls. Indulge your senses as you take in the pristine landscape, and truly experience the essence of Calabria’s natural abundance.
My personal favorite part of Calabria is the warmth and hospitality of the local communities. Exploring the picturesque Byzantine villages and medieval towns that dot the Calabrian landscape is a truly unique experience. Immerse yourself in the vibrant cultural tapestry that tells tales of ancient Greek and Roman influences, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich history and contemporary identity.
Magic of the coast
Now let’s not forget the Calabrian coast! Tropia It is a picturesque town perched on a cliff overlooking the clear blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunshine, and the town itself is full of great shops and restaurants.
Sila It is a charming fishing village located on the coast and is famous for its beautiful beaches and excellent seafood. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the slow pace of life in Calabria.
Another must-visit coastal destination is ScaliaThis city is famous for its beautiful beaches, ancient churches and charming old town, which is also located on a rocky peak overlooking the sea. Don’t miss a visit to St. Mary’s Church, which dates back to the 13th century. Princes’ Palacea castle that was once the seat of power in Scalea. Whether you are looking for relaxation, culture or adventure, Scalea is a destination that is sure to capture your heart and soul.
Winery with Michelin star restaurant
Last but not least, a visit to one of the many vineyards in Calabria is a must. I had the pleasure of visiting Cerrado WineryLocated in Strongoli, in southeastern Calabria, this place is perched on a hilltop in the Crotone area, offering stunning views of the entire Ionian coast.
