This homemade sesame dressing adds bold flavor to homemade salads. It only requires four basic ingredients: toasted sesame oil, soy sauce or tamari sauce, lemon juice, and a little Dijon mustard.
If you have the time and energy, add freshly toasted sesame seeds, fresh ginger and garlic. They add a touch of flavor, but this sauce is truly delicious in its simplest form.

This sesame dressing adds a fresh, bright flavor to homemade salads! The recipe is easy to make with sesame oil, soy sauce, and lemon juice. Yields about 1/2 cup.
size
ingredients
- 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds (optional, for texture and flavour)
- ¼ cup toasted sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons Low sodium soy sauce or tamari
- 2 tablespoons lemonade
- 2 to 3 1 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger
- 1 1 clove of garlic, crushed or minced
- ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
- A sprinkle of red pepper flakes (optional, for seasoning)
directions
- If using the optional sesame seeds, place them in a small skillet over medium-low heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until they begin to turn golden, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
- In a liquid measuring cup or small bowl, combine the sesame oil, tamari, lemon juice, 2 teaspoons ginger, garlic, mustard, optional red pepper flakes, and optional toasted sesame seeds.
- Whisk until well combined. Taste, and if the flavor is not yet apparent, add a pinch of salt. If you want a stronger ginger flavor, mix in the extra teaspoon now.
- This sauce can be served immediately, but the flavor is best after letting it sit for twenty minutes. You can store the sauce in the refrigerator, covered, for up to a week.
Notes
Make it gluten free: Make sure to use gluten-free soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce.
In a hurry? You can simplify this sauce by skipping the sesame seeds, garlic, and ginger. The sauce will still have a great flavor.
