I have written many articles about natural hair care over the years. Recipes like nourishing conditioner and Herbal hair treatments For healthier hair. However, healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. This hair growth oil helps nourish the scalp and is great for anyone suffering from hair loss and breakage.
This recipe was originally written for men who may notice hair loss as they age. However, many women also look for hair care products that promote healthy hair. Over-styling, tight hairstyles (such as tight braids), heat styling tools, thyroid problems, androgenetic alopecia, and pregnancy are all factors that contribute to hair loss.
More than half of women experience hair loss at some point. You may not be experiencing hair loss but still want to grow longer hair.
I started trying natural ways to encourage hair growth after pregnancy. I realized that this hair growth oil would be just as effective for men who want to avoid hair loss. No matter who you are, if you notice that your hair isn’t as lush as it used to be, the good news is that there are natural options.
Promote healthy hair growth
As with everything else, the foundation of healthy hair is a healthy diet. Nutrients like biotin and collagen help all hair types stay healthy and strong. Experts recommend Focus on B vitamins, vitamin C (for collagen production), omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins D and A.
If you’re iron deficient, that could play a role, too. Iron is essential for healthy blood flow to your hair follicles. I try to get as much of my nutrients from whole foods as possible, but supplements can help fill in the gaps. When we get enough nutrition, it can help reduce hair breakage, receding hairlines, and split ends, too.
Hydration and minerals are also important. If you notice dry hair, frizzy hair, or a dry scalp, you may need to drink more water. You can read my recipe for moisturizing hair. mineral drink here.
Oil treatment for hair growth
If your locks need some extra care, a natural scalp treatment can do the trick. There are a variety of natural oils that encourage hair growth quickly and easily. Some popular options include almond oil, argan oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil. For those experiencing hair loss, vitamin E can help reduce oxidative damage to the scalp and encourage hair growth.
While there are many options, in this recipe, I will be using:
- castor oil – Used to detoxify the body in treatments such as castor oil compresses. I have also used it to thicken/lengthen my hair. EyelashesNot only does this product help with hair loss, it also promotes hair growth significantly. My hair grew 1.5 inches in one month after using it twice a week!
- Black seed oil – Black seed oil Black seed oil has many benefits, but it’s especially great for hair growth. It can help treat some fungal infections that lead to hair loss, and it may also help prevent hair thinning in the first place. You can use it internally or topically, just test a small amount on the skin of your inner arm first before using it over a large area. Black seed oil can be irritating to some people.
- Rosemary oil Rosemary is known for its ability to stimulate hair growth, and is often added to hair growth treatments. And shampooAdding a small amount adds a pleasant scent and increases the effectiveness of the recipe by reducing inflammation and dandruff.
- Lavender essential oil – Also beneficial for skin health and hair growth, it helps to dilute the smell of black seed and rosemary to create a refreshing scent.
Tea tree oil and peppermint oil are also helpful, but I personally haven’t used them in my recipe. You can add a few drops of tea tree oil if you like to help with dandruff, oily scalp, or any fungal issues. Peppermint helps stimulate the scalp and increase blood flow for hair growth.
Olive oil and cayenne oil optional
Cayenne pepper helps boost circulation and is a popular remedy for hair loss and muscle pain. If you want to incorporate it into your hair growth oil, it’s easy to do so via infusion. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Add the ingredients to the top of the double boiler and let soak for about an hour.
- You can also do a solar infusion. Simply leave the chili peppers and oil in a glass jar in the sun for a few days.
- Strain the chili pepper and reserve the oil to use in your hair growth oil recipe.
Natural oil recipe for hair growth
A blend of oils that encourage hair growth, such as castor oil, black seed, rosemary, and lavender.
fruit: 3 ounces
Mix all ingredients in a dark glass bottle. A brown dropper bottle works, but I reuse the black cumin seed bottle. It has a special myron glass that protects the oils from spoilage for years.
Wet your hair and massage 10-30 drops (or 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon) into your scalp.
Leave it on for an hour or overnight then wash it off. I recommend using it at night and sleeping with a towel on your pillow to avoid oil stains.
Use once a week or as needed to increase hair growth.
Test the oils on a small part of the inner arm before using them on the entire scalp. Do not use if it causes any reaction or sensitivity. Black seed oil causes skin irritation in a small percentage of people with sensitive skin.
